Marguerite Valcin — Alex’s maternal-side great-grandmother — married Leroy Chassaing in Haiti; their daughter Marie Therese “Toye” Chassaing was Alex’s maternal grandmother. The Valcin surname is the entry point into another whole Haitian family branch that has not yet surfaced on this site; Marguerite is currently the only Valcin in the record.
